Vaux-le-Moncelot

Vaux -le- Moncelot is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vaux -le- Moncelot situated at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, 10 km north-east of Gy and about 28 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the southwest of the department, in Saônebecken in the valley of the Jouanne.

The area of ​​7.04 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. From south to north the area is crossed by the broad valley of the Jouanne, which ensures the drainage of Romaine. Is flanked by the lowland plateaus, geologically belong to the Saônebecken and are composed of Tertiary deposits. They are on average 260 m and are mainly used for agricultural purposes. In the north of the municipal territory extends into the grove of the Bois de l' Henrie. To the southeast the terrain gradually rises to the heights flanking the Saônebecken. They consist of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the middle and upper Jurassic period. With 300 m is reached the highest elevation of Vaux -le- Moncelot below the Bois du Vermot.

Neighboring communities of Vaux -le- Moncelot are Les Bâties in the north, Fretigney -et- Velloreille the east and Frasnian -le- Château in the south and west.

History

Finds of tools and jewelery from prehistoric times to the hallways Les Chaseaux and La Montée point to a very early settlement of the municipality. In the Middle Ages Vaux belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Oiselay. Later Vaux developed into an independent dominion. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. On July 25, 1832 Vaux -le- Moncelot was hit by a major fire in which 35 houses were destroyed. Since 2007, Vaux -le- Moncelot is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy. The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Frasnian -le- Château.

Attractions

A stately home with two side wings from the 18th century. The Lavoir, formerly well, wash and livestock watering, built in the 19th century in the Palladian style.

Population

With 77 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vaux -le- Moncelot one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 180 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Vaux -le- Moncelot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Frasnian -le- Château by Vezet.
