Vaux-sur-Poligny

Vaux- sur- Poligny is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vaux- sur- Poligny is located at 400 m above sea level. M., southeast of Poligny, about 22 km northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). History

In the valley of Vaux, a Cluniac Priory was founded in 1020. The name goes back to the Old French word vau or Vaul, indicating a narrow valley. The monastery and the settlement that had developed in the course of time next to it, were by troops of King Louis XI. destroyed in 1480 and again in 1638. Together with the Franche -Comté Vaux came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.
