Vechec

Vechec (Hungarian Vehéc ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia.

The municipality is situated on the Lomnica, a right tributary of the Topľa, stepping out of the mountain range Slanské Hills here. West of Vechec reached the mountains in Makovica a height of 981 meters above the sea, in the south-east the terrain falls away to the East Slovak Lowland. Two kilometers east of Vechec begins with Čemerné been the territory of the city Vranov nad Topľou.

The leading through Vechec main road - the highway 576 - is the shortest connection of Vranov nad Topľou in the city of Košice.

The place was first mentioned in 1327. The Roman Catholic church was built in 1820.

The population of the municipality Vechec is 86 % of Slovaks, 14 % are Roma, whose share between 1991 and 2001, more than tripled. 68 % of the population are Roman Catholics, 14 % gave as a confession of Greek- Catholic.
