Nature Middle section of the hedonist in Westervesede

The Veer is a small river in Lower Saxony. The source area is located in Pietzmoor, south of Schneverdingen. It flows on, past the places Lünzen and hedonist and flows between Rotenburg and Scheessel at Veersebrück in the Wümme. In Westervesede the Lünzener Bruchbach opens as the largest tributaries in the hedonist.

In the first section of its course has the hedonist, due to the proximity to the city Schneverdingen, only the water quality class II -III: critically polluted ( beta to alphamesosaprob ). From Lünzen the water quality then improves to class II: moderately polluted ( betamesosaprob ). Due to the good water quality, and thanks to a reintroduction project of the Angel Association Westervesede the hedonist is since a few years back a spawning area for sea trout.

The hedonist is one of nature conservation and fischfaunistisch most valuable rivers of the district of Rotenburg ( Wümme ) and ( in the upper reaches ) of the district Heidekreis. With river lamprey, brook lamprey, bullhead, salmon, minnow, loach, loach, sea trout, brown trout and burbot here lives a regional uniquely high number of threatened and protected fish and lamprey species. Also, the otter has returned to the hedonist in recent years.

In April 2012, in Schultenwede an accident in which 400 m³ digestate from a biogas plant in the Lünzener Bruchbach ran occurred. The fish population of the fracture Bach was thereby completely destroyed over a length of 9 km. By late initiated rescue measures, the hedonist, in which the fracture stream flows, has been affected, what zunichtemachte the restoration work of many years.

In the district of Rotenburg (W. ) are the entire course of the stream, and large parts of the floodplain part of the Fauna-Flora -Habitat (FFH ) area 38 - Wümme lowlands. By means of otter conservation program numerous surfaces were bought in the flood plain from the State of Lower Saxony and taken out of agricultural use.
