Vegalta Sendai

Vegalta Sendai (Japaneseベガルタ 仙台, Begaruta Sendai ) is a Japanese football club based in Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture. The club plays in the J. League Division 1

Name

Vegalta refers to the two stars Vega and Altair. They meet once a year on July 7, which is celebrated in Japan with the Tanabata Festival. Sendai is known for a particularly complicated celebrated Tanabata Festival.

History

The club was founded in 1988 as the works team of the Tōhoku Denryoku and renamed Brummell Sendai 1994. From 1995 to 1998 the club played in the Japan Football League, the second highest at this time game class in Japan. In 1998, the food company Japan Health Summit was the new main sponsor and 1999, the club received the current name Vegalta. At the same time, there was a reorganization of the leagues system: the J. League Division 2 was introduced as a new second highest division; Vegalta Sendai launched from now on in this class.

In the 2001 season, the club was awarded second place and thus ascend to Division 1. Vegalta played two years in the top division before relegation again in the 2003 season in the Division 2.

In the following five years, the club could then always place in the top six teams in the Division 2, but missed always the climb ranks. In the 2009 season we finally got a master of Division 2 again in the Division 1.

Vegalta Sendai is known for its enthusiastic fans; the atmosphere at home games is considered among Japanese football fans as one of the best in the country.

Largest shareholders was founded in 1994 K. K. Vegalta Sendai (English Vegalta Sendai Co., Ltd.. ) Are the Miyagi prefecture with 24.9 % of the shares, the city of Sendai with 23.5% and the construction company Higashi Nihon House, with 8.8% of the shares. Sales of Vegalta Sendai was around 1.5 billion yen in fiscal 2008.
