Vegreville, Alberta

Vegreville [ ˌ vəgɹə vɪl ] is a small town in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is located approximately 100 km east of Edmonton.

Vegreville was named after the French missionary Valentine Vegreville. The settlement was founded in the late 19th century and in 1905 was moved to its present location from the railway line of the Canadian Northern Railway was built.

The majority of the residents of Vegreville are descendants of Ukrainian immigrants. In Vegreville is the 9- m length World's Largest Pysanka, a decorated according to Ukrainian Easter egg type. It is made of aluminum and was erected in 1974 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and to the memory of the colonization of the region by Ukrainians. Beginning of July takes place every year the Pysanka Festival.

The economy of Vegreville is influenced mainly by agriculture.
