Vehicle registration plates of Afghanistan

The current Afghan license plates were introduced in 2004 and since then slightly modified. The signs have a size of 390mm × 160mm and usually show black font on a white background. The label consists of three letters, which indicate the origin province of the vehicle, a continuous string of digits and a letter or letters that indicate the status of the vehicle ( PRV or SH for private vehicles, L for trucks). In the top row letters and numbers in Arabic letters are reproduced in the lower in Latin. An image of the presidential palace in Kabul as well as in newer signs Between the two inscriptions on the left edge a hologram sticker on the right. Number plates for vehicles for public transport have a yellow background. As the letter B are used for bus or taxi for T on the right side.

Earlier sign referred exclusively to Arabic characters. They started followed by four digits with a letter. At the end of the advertised name of the region appeared.
