Vehicle registration plates of Argentina

License Plate is available in Argentina since about 1900. In Argentina they are chapas patentes, patentes or dominio called. Until 1972, the flag were assigned individually by each province, centralized and standardized afterwards. In 1994, the classification system was changed again accounted for the breakdown of origin.

Since 1994

Since 1 January 1994, the license plate is nationwide of three letters and three digits. The color scheme with black background and white font was retained, however, the signs now on a white frame in which at the top of the coat of arms of Argentina and the country name in the local language appears. The signs do not allow any conclusions as to the origin of the vehicle. Vehicles that were registered before the deadline for new features were starting at RAA000, new vehicles get license plate starting with AAA000. Public and diplomatic vehicles may have other characteristics. The new system enables 26 × 10 ³ ³ = 17.576 million different registration numbers.

1972-1994

Since 1972, the mark awarded by a federal agency. This was an Argentine flag of a letter and six digits, white on black. The letter stood for the province or city in which the vehicle was reported, the numbers were assigned in ascending order. In the Buenos Aires Province and the city of Buenos Aires until 1994, however, more than one million vehicles were registered, so that another digit had to be added, which was written under the letters.

1900-1972

By 1972, every province, partially offset any city, its own characteristics issued. There was accordingly no nationwide uniform system for marking.
