Vehicle registration plates of Lebanon

The Lebanese license plate is a white sign with black letters and resembles since 1997 the Euro plate. It has similar size ( 520 x 110 mm) and the left edge a blue bar. Then a cedar of Lebanon is displayed in the upper half. Additionally, the use of the vehicle is indicated (eg private vehicle) in Arabic on the bottom half of the blue bar. Other information is carried out in two languages.

The flag is - read from right to left - according to the reading direction of the written Arabic. On the lower right side is an Arabic letter for the registration district, which is followed by a maximum of six Indo- Arabic numerals. It is the country name Lebanon (Arabic: لبنان, DMG Lubnān ) in Arabic.

On the upper right half of the license plate string is repeated in Latin letters in the left - right writing. Among them is the country name LIBAN in French in Latin capitals.

Alternatively exist for long format still signs in American format.

Variants

The white plates are issued with different additives for private and commercial use. In addition there are further variants:

  • License plate for taxis are red with black lettering.
  • Automotive export license plates lime green with black lettering.
  • License Plate for Car Rental for Self Drive are also lime green with black lettering.
  • License plate for vehicle dealers vehicles are yellow with black lettering.
  • License Plate for diplomats were initially white with black lettering. Since 2003, these are yellow with black lettering.
  • There are also license plate for the judiciary. They are white with black lettering. The bar in the left margin, however, is executed in red. On the upper half of the beam, the Lebanon cedar is shown and on the lower half of a scale. Among them is justice in Arabic. In addition, a red oval seal is attached to the right side, on the scales and the word justice is also displayed in French and Arabic.
  • License plate for vehicles of the armed forces of Lebanon are black with white lettering and the flag of Lebanon.

Previous Features

Until the end of 1996 in Lebanon black signs with white letters were used as license plate. Due to the lower density of vehicles numbering was adequate with a maximum of six digits without suffix letters. On the right side stood up to six digits in Indo- Arabic notation. On the left side of the digit sequence was repeated in Latin- Arabic notation. In the middle stood above the country name Lebanon in Arabic and including the French country name LIBAN. As the number range was exhausted, was converted to the new indicator system.

Even in the earlier mark existed a version in the U.S. format.
