Veikko Antero Koskenniemi

Veikko Antero Koskenniemi ( born July 8, 1885 in Oulu, † August 4, 1962 in Turku ) was a Finnish writer.

Life

In 1921, Koskenniemi was appointed Professor of Literary History in Turku; In 1948 he became a member of the Academy of Finland ( Suomen Akatemia ). Koskenniemi was one of the most popular writers in Finland. His role models were, among others, Goethe and Runeberg. He became famous for his poetry, travel books and essays. Entered into the folklore is his text to Jean Sibelius ' Finlandia Symphonic.

In 1941 he took part in the Weimar poets meeting, where it was founded by the collaborationist consent European writers, the European Writers' Association. In several poems he wrote about the stars, and he was a founding member of the Society Torun Ursa for amateur astronomers. The 1940 discovered asteroid (1697 ) Koskenniemi is named after him.
