Vekhi

Wechi ( Russian: Вехи translated, road signs ) was an anthology (published in 1909, 5 runs) with articles of some famous Russian authors. The anthology called the change of heart of several Russian thinkers who had developed during the revolution of 1905 from its earlier pro- revolutionary, Marxist attitude to liberalism or conservatism. The authors of the collection were Nikolai Berdyaev, Sergei Bulgakov, AS Izgojew, M.O. Herschenson ( Geršenzon ), B. A. Kistjakowskij, S. L. Frank, Pyotr Struve. Four out of seven contributors were Neokantianer. These intellectuals rejected the violence of the revolution, anarchy and " ethical confusion " from, threw the radical parties and the Russian intelligentsia dogmatism, nihilism, self-censorship and power cult before. The contributors called for the intelligentsia to be cultivating inward goodness and spiritual values.

The Wechi were ( generally ) of intellectuals strongly criticized by both the left (eg Lenin) as well and sometimes even referred to as a betrayal. The publication of the collection has been called later than the biggest sensation Russian intellectual life since Tschaadajews letter.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn saw the collection as a prophetic work, but was ignored or rejected. ( А.Солженицын, " Образованищина " in:. " Из - под глыб ", М, 1974. )
