Vela Luka

Vela Luka ( literally " Big Port " ), it. Valle Grande, is a Croatian harbor town on the island of Korčula in the eastern Adriatic.

The independent municipality with 4,137 inhabitants ( 2011 census ) is the second largest town on the island and lies in the far west at a deeply cut bay. It has a Ferry to Split and the neighboring islands. Vela Luka is a tourist a long time of developed beach resort with pebble beaches and offshore islands bath. There are several hotels and private accommodation as well as numerous restaurants.

The place is just a few meters above the sea. The highest point is the south west, 376 meters high, Hum. Besides tourism, the fishing and the cultivation of grapes and olives are still of economic importance.

Heraldry

The coat of arms of the town consists of a white dove of peace with a yellow branch of the olive tree in its beak on blue ground.
