Velimir Zajec
Playing career
Velimir Zajec began his professional career in 1974 at the age of 18 years at Dinamo Zagreb. With Dinamo won Zajec next to the Yugoslav Championship in 1982, the first for the club after 24 years, twice the Cup (1980, 1983) and the 1977 Balkans Cup. In 1984 Zajec to the Greek tradition Panathinaikos Athens. This transfer made it a stir since Zajec had risen at this time the captain of the Yugoslav national football team and top European clubs from Spain and Italy were interested in signing the libero. In Zajec Panathinaikos won a Greek Cup ( 1986) and twice the Cup (1986, 1988), came to over 100 Erstligaeinsätze and finally finished in 1988 his active career as a player.
The Yugoslav national Velimir Zajec participated in the 1982 World Cup in Spain and at the 1984 European Championship in France and came to a total of 40 missions.
Coaching career
In July 2010, he returned as coach to Dinamo Zagreb. After failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League 2010/11 against Sheriff Tiraspol, he was released again.
