The Velké Dářko ( German Big Zdarskoteich ) is a pond in eastern Bohemia. It is located on the southwestern foot of the mountains Saarer about eight kilometers north of the town of Zdar nad Sázavou in a glacial valley in the Czech Republic.

Geography

In the northern area of the pond is surrounded by moors. East of Radostín is on a small tributary to a bifurcation Štířový Brook, a tributary of the Doubrava. To the south of the Nový closes at fishpond. This area, where the tourist resorts Velké Dářko and Novomlýnské lie, recreation purposes. The Velké Dářko is often erroneously cited as the source of the Sázava.

To specify the fully surrounded by woods pond are the villages Radostín, Karlov, Škrdlovice, Polnička and Račín.

History

The artificial lake was created in 1480. The abbot of the monastery Linhart Saar left on 15 January 1480, the desert corridor Darko Troppauer the Duke Viktorin for applying a fish pond. As compensation, the monastery received therefrom for any occasion twenty shock carp.

The water surface is normally 171.2 ha, thus sums up the pond 3.37 million m³ of water. The maximum capacity is 5.15 million m³. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the southern area of Velké Dářko was and the Nový rybnik to a recreation area.
