Velký Lopeník

The Velky Lopeník ( Czech) or Velky Lopeník ( Slovak), ( German Big Lopenik ) is a 911 m high mountain in the White Carpathians. It is located 17 kilometers southeast of Uherský Brod and 20 kilometers northwest of Trenčín. Over its peak, the border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia runs.

Geography

The mountain is part of the Lopenická hornatina ( Lopeníkbergland ). In the north joins the Czech lands the Maly Lopeník ( 881 m). Nearby Cities are Lopeník in the north, Březova in the West, Predpoloma in the east, as well as Grúň in the south. The latter places are part of the Slovak village Nová Bošáca.

History

1944 was the first wooden observation tower on the mountain, which was only a short time in 1946 and burned down. His successor overturned in 1972. Following the June 23, 2002 at the groundbreaking ceremony began in 2004, jointly sponsored by the Slovak and Czech side, construction of a new tower, which was inaugurated on 16 July 2005. It has a height of 22 meters and is, like its predecessors, a wooden structure. The construction costs were approximately 2 million crowns. Until located in 20 m height observation deck lead 101 steps.

The mountain is used on the Slovak side for paragliding.
