Veluwe

The Veluwe is the largest contiguous forest area ( about 1100 km ²) in the Netherlands. It is located directly southeast of the Veluwemeeres and the other Veluwerandmeere in the province of Gelderland. A part of the area is protected by the National Park De Hoge Veluwe.

Landscape structure

Mainly, there are pine mixed forests on sandy ground moraine. Many of these forests were planted in the 18th and 19th centuries, as the former sand dunes threatened agriculture and the wood should serve the housing and mining and paper production. Tourism

The Veluwe is a magnet for tourism, both from Germany and especially from the Netherlands itself There are many camping facilities, hotels and restaurants.
