Samtstirnkleiber ( Sitta frontalis)

The Samtstirnkleiber ( Sitta frontalis) is an endemic in India, Sri Lanka, southern China and Indonesia Kleiberart. He lives in forests, especially in evergreen forests.

Features

The 12.5 cm long Samtstirnkleiber has a large head, a short tail and a powerful beak. The plumage is oberseits blue-violet with lavender cheeks. In hand, the feathers with whitish beige chest. The beak is red and the front head is a black spot. The male has a black eye-streak over that is missing in the female. The young birds are less colorful than the adult birds. Like other nuthatches, he has the ability to run down tree trunks. The food consists of insects and spiders. The Samtstirnkleiber is a gregarious bird which forms flocks with other songbirds.

Reproduction

The nest is a tree hollow, which is lined with moss, hair, feathers or grass. Is the entrance to the cave too large, it is reduced with mud. The nest consists of up to six red -spotted white eggs.
