Velykyi Bychkiv

Welykyj Bychkiv (Ukrainian Великий Бичків; Russian Великий Бычков / Velikiy Bychkov, rare German wholesale Botschko, Czech Veliký Bočkov, Slovak Velky Bočkov, Bočková, Hungarian Nagybocskó, Romanian Bocicoiu Mare ) is an urban-type settlement in the Western Ukraine ( Transcarpathian Oblast, Rajon Rakhov ) about 36 kilometers east of the city Tyachiv.

The approximately 9400 inhabitants village lies in the valley of the Tisza river at the confluence with the river Schopurka ( Шопурка ).

History

The town was first mentioned in writing in 1358 as Buchku and is derived from the Slavic word for " bull" from. In 1556 he came under the rule of the Báthorys 1711 was in place already a stately seat with the abortive uprising led by Francis II Rákóczi and the associated displacement and refugee movements to German settled in the vicinity of the place.
