Ven, Sweden

Ven is 760 acres (7.6 km ²) in size and has about 370 inhabitants living in four villages:

  • Bäckviken (East)
  • By Tuna (north center )
  • Norreborg (North)

On the island there are several hotel facilities, a youth hostel ( Vandrarhem ), a golf course and a campsite. There are daily ferry services to and from Landskrona ( Ventrafiken ). In the summer there is also ferry service to and from Råå and Denmark. The island is visited in the season of tens of thousands of day-trippers. For this reason, standing alone 1200 Bikes ready.

Ven was known by the astronomical observations and research of Tycho Brahe, who was invested with the island in 1576. At that time ( until the Peace of Copenhagen) the island belonged to Denmark yet. Brahe was here Uraniborg and the observatory Stjerneborg build, the remains of which were excavated in the early 20th century.

After the island of the asteroid (379) and Huenna ( 1678) Hveen are named.
