Venafro

Venafro is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 11,277 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Isernia in Molise. The community is directly adjacent to the provinces of Caserta and Frosinone. Venafro located 20 kilometers southwest of Isernia in the valley of the Volturno.

History

Today's Venafro goes back to the ancient Samnite settlement Venafrum, from the preserved remains of an amphitheater, among other things, that summed up 3,500 seats and has a diameter of about 60 meters.

Traffic

Venafro is situated on a branch of Strada Statale 6 Casilina from Rome to Pastorano. On the SS6Dir meets here the Strada Statale 85 Venafrana. On the railway line from Vairano - Caianello to Isernia, there is a train station. From this line a branch leading to San Vittore del Lazio.
