Venediger Group

P1f1p5

The Venice Group is a subgroup of the Austrian Central Alps in the Eastern Alps. Together with the Ankogelgroup, the Goldberg Group, the Glockner Group, the Schober Group, the Kreuzeckgruppe, the Granatspitzgruppe, the Villgratner mountains and the Rieserfernergruppe forms the Venedigergruppe the large group of the Hohe Tauern. Share of the Venedigergruppe Austria have with the federal states of Salzburg and Tyrol and Italy with the province of South Tyrol. Tirol ( Tyrol ) has the largest proportion of the mountain range. The highest peak of Venedigergruppe is the eponymous GROßVENEDIGER ( 3657 m above sea level. A. ).

The Venedigergruppe includes the main ridge of the Hohe Tauern mountain range in the western part. The Felbertauernstraße runs on the east side of the group. The Venedigergruppe is the most glaciated mountain range in the Hohe Tauern. The fame of the main summit of the Group, the Großvenediger, leaves the other areas and mountains appear somewhat into the background. The group offers a large number of peaks, altitude trails and cabins. The origin of the name is not unique. According to legend, saw local shepherds sometime for the first time the huge shiny ice mass of these mountains and believed, with a city to see a lake level ( "Venice" ), but the name is also attributed to the Venetian.

Adjacent Mountain Ranges

The Venedigergruppe borders the following other mountain groups in the Alps:

  • Kitzbühel Alps ( in the north)
  • Granatspitzgruppe (in the east )
  • Villgratner mountains ( in the south)
  • Rieserfernergruppe ( in the southwest )
  • Zillertal Alps ( in the west)

Boundary

In the north the Oberpinzgau the Salzach River forms the border of Krimml downstream to Mittersill. In the east, the boundary runs south of Mittersill along the Felber stream crossed Felbertauernstraße and further along the Tauern Bach to Matrei in East Tyrol. From there, the boundary follows the Isel further south to the village of Huben. In the south the Defereggental forms the boundary of the Huben Schwarzach upriver to Jagdhausalm and Klammljoch. From Klammljoch going downwards along the Klammlbachs and Reintal to Campo Tures. In the west the boundary runs along the Ahrntals of Campo Tures to Birnlücke and through the Krimml Krimml Achen Valley.

The Birnlücke connects the Venedigergruppe with the Zillertal Alps. The Klammljoch provides the connection to Rieserfernergruppe. The Felbertauernstraße connects the Venedigergruppe with the Granatspitzgruppe.

During run regularly from the main ridge to the north side of ridges, the ridges fan out to the south spreading and form their own sub-groups, the Durreck Range, the Panargenkamm and Lasörlinggruppe.

Between the heavily glaciated main ridge and the Lasörlinggruppe with the Virgental the only permanently populated valley among the Venedigergruppe.

Major parts of the Venedigergruppe on the Austrian side part of the core zone of the National Park Hohe Tauern, on the Italian side to Rieserferner Ahrn.
