Venice is a settlement belonging to any community in Plaquemines Parish in the southeast of the U.S. state of Louisiana with a population of 460.

History

Due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 Venice has been almost completely destroyed. Since then, numerous buildings have been rebuilt, but the effects are still recognizable. The bridge leading to Venice, was not destroyed.

Geography

Venice, the terminus of the Great River Road is located, 121 kilometers southeast of New Orleans and is the last road- accessible location on the Mississippi River a few kilometers from its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico. Venice is located on the west bank of the Mississippi River at 29 ° 16 ' 37 " north latitude and 89 ° 21' 17 " west longitude.

Economy

In place both commercial fishing and sport fishing plays a big role. There is a marina and numerous organizer for fishing trips.

Another industry is the supply of the numerous drilling platforms off the coast. One of these plants for oil production, the Deepwater Horizon, about 84 km south-east of Venice in the Gulf of Mexico, sank on 22 April 2010 after an explosion.
