History

The first station was opened as part of the route from Nijmegen to Maastricht in November 1865. This was not at the site of the present station, but a little further south. 1874 passenger station was moved to its present location. One of the reasons for this was the Hamburg- Venlo railway. Their left-Rhine part of Venlo on Straelen to Wesel was opened in 1874 and closed down piece by piece after the destruction of Wesel railway bridge in the Second World War.
