Ventimiglia di Sicilia

Ventimiglia di Sicilia is a city in the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 2048 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Ventimiglia di Sicilia located 44 km southeast of Palermo. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Baucina, Bolognetta, Caccamo, Casteldaccia and Ciminna.

History

The community was founded in 1625 by Don Girolamo del Carrettos. The city was named after his wife Beatrice Ventimiglia. In 1863 the name di Sicilia has been added to distinguish the town of Ventimiglia in Liguria. In the Sicilian language, the name is Calamigna.

Population

From 2001 to 2007, the population declined by 3.8%. The average age in Ventimiglia di Sicilia is 44.7 years (as of 2007 ).
