Ventura County, California

Ventura County is a county in the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is in Ventura.

History

For millennia the area was home to the Chumashindianer. In 1782, the mission San Buenaventura was founded. Buenaventura is composed of the two Spanish words buena (meaning " good" means ) and ventura (which means " fate " means ) together. The city, which was built near the mission was called San Buenaventura. 1872 Ventura County was created by the demarcation of the southern part of Santa Barbara County.

Geography
