Action

After an unsuccessful casting day of the Paris theater director Thomas ( Mathieu Amalric ) has reached the end of his tether. Not only that, the determination of the ideal candidate for the demanding female lead roles seem to be an impossibility, most would like to Thomas throw the entire production. Just then stumbles Wanda ( Emmanuelle Seigner ) through the doors of the theater hall and faces a desperate director before late applicant. Thomas is initially less than thrilled by her appearance, because basically the blonde lady embodies everything that he can not stand on women - from their appearance, their sparkling creativity and existing zest to the fact that she lives seems to take an uncritical self-evident. With luck and Tricks succeeds Wanda at the end, but to move it to a Probevorsprechen the first three pages of text. They struck him immensely, because it dominates the text perfectly. Therefore, a complete play through of the play in which he (initially ) takes over the male part begins. While the line between reality and acting on stage more and more blurred, will open up between the two figures hidden passions and terrifying abyss.

Quantcast

As in God of Carnage Polanski worked with a manageable ensemble, even with two people less gets along this time. While maneuvering in the film adaptation of the play by the French playwright Yasmina Reza nor Christoph Waltz, Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly by the narrowness of a New York Apartments, Venus in Furs directed his focus exclusively on two people. Emmanuelle Seigner is the wife of filmmaker and a well-known theater actress in France. Mathieu Amalric looks almost like Polanski himself at a younger age.

Reviews

"While these films were more three- or four- corner, the third party exists here only in the form of Alexandre Desplat's successful film music that accompanied become particularly intense moments. Otherwise, here the more restrained playing by his standards Mathieu Amalric and Polanski's wife Emmanuelle Seigner alone in the theater and wear this chamber play effortlessly. Venus in Furs has thereby more than to challenge in any way, the highlights are the moments of tension less than the disrespectful comments chavvy Off-Stage - Vanda. Enigmatic but the film is when Polanski gradually incorporating breaks within its static settings if it can flow life to the theater, and vice versa, and makes a room from the theater auditorium where terms such as Off and On-Stage no sense have become blurred in the appearance and reality. "

" Torture is indispensable for inspiration, whose loss would be more terrible than the pain. It asks the director, in unison with the sung by Lou Reed anti-hero: " Severin, your servant comes in bells, please do not forsake him. Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart. " "
