Venustiano Carranza is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas, located in the midtown area of the state. The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas.

Formerly called this place Copanahuastla what comes from Nahuatl and means place of snakes. The present name is dedicated to the former Mexican President Venustiano Carranza.

This municipality has about 61,000 inhabitants and is 1364.6 km ². Administrative seat and largest town of the Municipalities is the same Venustiano Carranza; the nearest large towns are San Francisco Pujiltic, Soyatitán, Ricardo Flores Magon and Aguacatenango.

The municipality of Venustiano Carranza borders the Municipalities Totolapa, Nicolás Ruiz, Teopisca, Amatenango del Valle, Las Rosas, Socoltenango, La Concordia, Villa Corzo, Chiapa de Corzo and Acala.
