Vera Gornostayeva

Wera Wassiljewna Gornostajewa (Russian Вера Васильевна Горностаева; born October 1, 1929 in Moscow) is a Russian pianist and piano teacher.

Life

She was at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory student of Heinrich Neuhaus and taught there since 1950. In 1970 she was awarded a full professorship there, which she still holds today. Between 1970 and 1988 she was not allowed to leave the Soviet Union because it was classified by the government as "politically unreliable ". Since 1990 she has taught in the context of Yamaha Musical discovery in the Yamaha master class. She is president of the Moscow Federation of Musicians.

Work

Gornostaewa gives master classes in Japan, Italy, Germany, France, England, Switzerland, Poland, the USA and the UK. She was a jury member at numerous international competitions, including Casadesus in Cleveland in 1991, Hamamatsu, Japan in 1997, Rachmaninoff in Moscow in 2002 and Maria Callas in Athens in 2004. Moreover, she gives seminars for Russian music teacher and lectures on classical music and fine arts on radio and television. She has published numerous articles and books.

Gornostaewa has released nine recordings. Several CD recordings have been released by Philips, Phoenix, Yamaha and other record companies, on which she plays the works of classical composers.

Family

Gornostajewa is the grandmother born in 1990 in Moscow Lithuanian- Russian pianist Lukas Geniušas.
