The Long Distance Championship Nürburgring describes himself as a successful endurance racing series in Europe. In fact, now is already a kind of export place, because after the 24 - hour race in Dubai 24- hour race in 2006 was also once held in Bahrain. Was in charge there, the MSC Ruhr- Bochum Blitz.
The hosted by ADAC Nordrhein 24 -hour race at the Nürburgring is currently not part of the Nürburgring Long Distance Championship, the organizers cooperate, however.
These clubs organize the many years as a " Veedol Endurance Cup " well-known series of endurance racing for touring cars on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The V in VLN was formerly often associated with the long-standing sponsors Valvoline or later Veedol in conjunction before 2001-2009, the tire manufacturer BFGoodrich eponym. In addition, the series by the German Motorsport Federation in 2001 was awarded the status of a championship. The series was called hereafter " the BFGoodrich Endurance Championship Nürburgring" ( BFGLM ), from 2010 " VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring ."
A lap is 24.433 km long and consists of the Nürburgring- Nordschleife and the sprint of the GP course. The time distances are different: Nine races run over four hours, the traditional highlight of the season, the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal race, takes six hours.
For historical reasons, some races have names that have hardly anything to do with the actual race distance, such as the 250- mile race. Also, the 4- hour race was partially recognized only over the shortest period of 3.5 hours, which is now barely extended in favor of a nearly uniform length of four hours. Exceptions are events where a guest series performs a short race between training and racing, and of course, carried out since 1993 6- hour race.
Most fans watching the race at the Nordschleife. To access certain sections, some meters must be hiked in part. Because several sections, including " Sweden Cross", "Adenauer Forst", "Carousel " and " Wippermann ," are partly a few hundred meters away from the nearest main road. Easy to reach and always well attended, however, are such as " Breidscheid ", " Brünnchen " and " nursery ". All along the Nordschleife entrance fee must be paid. Only for the paddock and the open grandstands at the Grand Prix circuit of the Nürburgring are tickets for the price of 15 euros is required.
The scoring system of the championship takes into account the number of starters in each age-group. It was during the 2009 season 33 vehicle classes, spread over four vehicle types, which are called "division". The more vehicles in a class at the start are, the more points you can win winner and runners. Therefore, do not automatically win the strongest car at the end of the season the champion, but usually the vehicle that could be placed in the class with the most starters most forward.
For the class winner almost ten points are calculated for the last placed almost no points. Resigned get no points. The formula points = 10 * ( Starter 0.5 - Placement ) / starter, it will be rounded to two places. A single vehicle thus obtained 5.00 points, with two starters 7.5 and 2.5 points are distributed in fives there are 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1 point. With ten cars in the class the winner gets 9.5 points, at twenty, it is 9.75. At a hundred vehicles in a class, gets the winner 9,95 points. In the championship, there are two worst scores, thus the best eight of the ten runs are scored. Almost always provide the cheapest production-based classes under two liters, the master, since there the most points will be awarded for the high number of participants, and also a second place with 18 starters as many points as introducing a victory at six starters.
