Verbatim Corporation

The Verbatim Corporation (Latin verbatim, word for word 'or' verbatim ') is a U.S. subsidiary of Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical and a leading global manufacturer of computer storage media headquartered in Charlotte ( North Carolina).

History

The company Verbatim Corporation was founded in 1969 and acquired in 1990 by Mitsubishi Chemical. It belongs to its subsidiary Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co. Ltd. .. Verbatim operates worldwide with offices in the Americas, Europe, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. June 30, 2007 Verbatim SmartDisk took over with one of the leading U.S. provider of memory products and so laid the foundations for the sale of its own external hard drives.

Verbatim has plants in the U.S., Japan and Singapore. Most of the production of CD -R ( W) and DVD -/ R ( W), however, is outsourced to licensees who produce on behalf of Verbatim Verbatim according to manufacturing and quality guidelines. The products have, if they have the Advanced Azo / Super Azo / Metal Azo / SERL label, qualitatively the same properties as the "original" Verbatim products on and are produced with the same materials and following the same procedures.

Equivalent media are sold in parts of Asia under the name "Mitsubishi". The "Mitsubishi Black Diamond " blank DVDs, which are sold in parts of Europe, do not come from Mitsubishi Kagaku, but from Mitsubishi Electric.

Especially in the field of CD -R and for DVD - range " Pearl White" ( 8x) are purchased from the companies mentioned their own products. These products have the O.A. Label but not on and were formerly led to the differentiation of the product range DataLife instead DataLifePlus. " Pearl White" 16x now own but again Mitsubishi media codes, so be original and Verbatim no longer be purchased.

Since late 2006, Prodisc produced on behalf of Verbatim optimized for archival purposes blank under the name " Archival Grade " ( in other countries sold as Ultralife ). It includes DVD - R discs with Advanced AZO technology (8x write speed ), in which an additional reflective layer of gold applied and a highly scratch resistant paint is used on the data page. In Germany this type of DVD is only available as "Photo Printable ". Although there exist both unprintable Verbatim DVD -R also ( unprintable ) CD- R of this type, but they are not sold by Verbatim in Germany.

The manufacturer PDO Europe sells in Germany both DVD -R and CD -R, which are identical according to a statement from PDO Europe come with Verbatim Archival Grade media and " from the same forge ."

Inner ring

Using the information on the inner ring can be applied to some DVD R and DVD- R disc types further information on the actual manufacturer to win. Relevant however, this is only for the production facilities Taiwan, since two different manufacturers produce on behalf of Verbatim.

Stampercode

The Stampercode is applied to the recording side of the production process. It comes directly from the device on which the blank was prepared. The Stampercode located near the - mostly transparent - the inner ring. However, it can only be read at a certain angle.

The Stampercode blanks for the company Verbatim usually has a structure similar to ZD ... DVR .... or ZC ... DVR .... (Example: ZD0001 - DVR - X47B ).

Techniques

The products manufactured with Verbatim technique or by Taiyo Yuden and purchased optical disks use different patented technologies.

Metal Azo is a deep blue azo dye for recording speeds up to 16x. Metal Azo still occasionally comes with audio CD -R used.

Super Azo is at higher speeds (24x and above ) are used. In Japan, Super Azo CD -R are also sold as "Sonic azo ".

Metal Azo is a purple azo dye for recording speeds up 2x/2.4x.

Advanced Azo was introduced with 4x DVD R and maintained at the 8x DVD R. The 16x DVD R using Advanced Azo .

The rewritable media using the Super Eutectic Recording Layer ( SERL ) technology, which is to be regenerated when you delete (unlike other brands of media ).

SERL is developed for special applications, which are described in less than about 6000 1/min. This is the case, which have been designed for 4x 10x/12x-Geschwindigkeit or CD- RW media. With DVD RW media, the maximum speed is 4x.

It also special audio CD -RW with the so-called Terl ( Tellurium Alloy Recording Layer ) technology are made.

Advanced SERL is used in the media about the 6000 1/min-Grenze. CD - RW discs for 24x or 32x speed and DVD -RW media for 6x speed are manufactured with Advanced SERL.
