Verduno

Verduno ( Verdun Piedmontese ) is a municipality with 569 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont. Elevated position viewpoint ( Belvedere) right next to the parish church of San Michele Arcangelo enjoys a panoramic view of the surrounding communities.

In Verduno are vines for the Dolcetto d' Alba, grown a red wine with DOC status. A specialty is the rare Verduno Pelaverga, a bright red, also with DOC status.

Geography

The municipality covers an area of 7 km ². The neighboring municipalities are Bra, La Morra, Roddi and Santa Vittoria d' Alba.

  • Parish Church of San Michele Arcangelo, built in 1708, designed with in exposed masonry facades
  • Sanctuary of Beato Valfrè Sebastiano, built in 1940 in the style of historicism, named after the presbyters Sebastiano Valfrè ( born March 9, 1629 in Verduno; † January 30, 1710 in Turin). Valfrè was active as a clergyman, especially during 117 -day siege of Turin in 1706 by French troops during the Spanish War of Succession in 1834 and beatified by the Catholic Church. After " Beato Valfrè " the street is named in Verduno that leads to the Sanctuary.
