Vereeniging ( Afrikaans for ' association ') is a city in the province of Gauteng in South Africa. The city lies on the River Vaal, on the southern edge of the conurbation of Johannesburg and has 99 787 inhabitants ( 2011).

The water power of the Vaal is used for energy production, which helped to Vereeniging with a center of the mining industry, especially iron smelting and coal mining. The city served through their plants a large part of Gauteng with electricity. In Vereeniging is one of the largest dams in South Africa, the Vaal Dam.

Vereeniging was founded in 1892 by Boers. The Treaty of Vereeniging ended the Second Anglo-Boer War in 1902.
