Vergence (geology)

Vergence referred to in geology, the tilt direction inclined folds. For example, an inclined eastward fold is called ostvergent.

The angle formed by the axis and the vertical surface, is called or Vergenzgrad vergence angle.

Folds with opposite vergence in a package of folds or fold mountains have divergence when the axis surfaces form an upwardly open compartments, and Antivergenz, when they form a downwardly opening pockets. The interface between the folds of parts of different vergence is called Scheitelungslinie or Scheitelung.
