Verica Trstenjak

Verica Trstenjak ( born December 9, 1962) is a Slovenian law scholar and since 2013 University Professor of European Law at the University of Vienna. From 2006 to 2012 she was the Advocate General at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

Professional career

In 1987, she completed her Legal exam and received in 1997 a doctorate from the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. Between 1994 and 1996 she was Head of the Legal Department and between 1996 and 2000 as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Research and Technology operates. In 2000, she became General Secretary of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia.

Academic Record

Verica Trstenjak completed her doctoral studies at the University of Zurich, Institute of Comparative Law at the University of Vienna, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law and the Free University of Amsterdam. It is in 1996, Associate Professor of Legal Theory and Private Law and became a full Professor of Private Law and European Law in 2006.

She was also a visiting professor at the University of Vienna and Freiburg ( University of Freiburg ) at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and at the universities of Heidelberg, Bonn, Salzburg, Zurich, Liechtenstein, Amsterdam ( University of Amsterdam) and Luxembourg. By 2006 she was a member of the " Study Group on a European Civil Code".

She has more than 200 legal articles and several books on European and private law written; at the same time she has lectured at numerous conferences in Slovenia and abroad (eg conferences Common Frame of Reference - Münster, Osnabrück, Trier, Luxembourg: European Jurists 2011; Trier: Annual Meeting of the Society of Comparative Law 2011; Berlin: Humboldt University, 2012, Salzburg: 24th European notary days, 2012).

She takes teaching for master's courses at the University of Luxembourg (litigation in EU Intellectual Property Rights) as well as at the Evropska pravna fakulteta in Nova Gorica / Slovenia ( Evropsko civilno pravo / European civil law, Primerjalno pravo in veliki právní sistemi / Law and large jurisdictions, Pravosodni sistem Evropské Unije / jurisdiction true of the European Union). She has also worked with non-governmental organizations in Slovenia as well as the drafting of the Law on Foundations. Between 1997 and 2000 she was a member of the Working Group 17, which was responsible for negotiations with the EU.

In 2012 she was appointed Scientific Member at the new Max Planck Institute for International Luxembourg, European and Regulatory Procedural Law as Foreign. 2013 she was appointed University Professor of European Law at the University of Vienna, Faculty of Law.

From 7 July 2004 to 6 October 2006, she worked as a judge at the Court of First Instance of the European Union, on 7 October 2006, she was up to the November 28, 2012, Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
