Veritas File System

Veritas File System (short: VxFS, called the operating system HP- UX JFS or OJFS, not to be confused with the Journaled File System for AIX and Linux) is a commercial system software for Unix, which has been available since 1991. The Veritas File System is a journaled file system, which limits the risk of data loss and the speed of data integrity checking can be increased. The software is mainly used on large file servers and database servers to use, and is considered the first commercial journaling file system at all.

VxFS is a further development of UFS, and has been developing software for AT & T in 1990 from Veritas. Since the acquisition of Veritas in 2004, the software is developed and distributed by Symantec. VxFS is available for various Unix derivatives, such as Sun Solaris or HP- UX, but also for Linux. The software is included in the bundle Veritas Storage Foundation. A Windows version is also available, it is offered as Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows.

Since version 5.0, a free version with limited functionality is available under the name of Veritas Storage Foundation Basic.
