Verkhnodniprovsk Raion

The Rajon Werchnjodniprowsk (Ukrainian Верхньодніпровський район; Russian Верхнеднепровский район / Werchnedneprowski rayon ) is an administrative unit, founded in 1923 within the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in central Ukraine.

The Rajon has an area of ​​1286 km ² and a population of about 53,800 inhabitants ( November 2013 ). The population density is 42 inhabitants per km ².

The administrative seat and largest town is the city of Rajons Werchnjodniprowsk. The city is located 33 km north-west of the city Dniprodserschynsk and 73 km northwest of the Oblasthauptstadt Dnipropetrovsk.

Geography

The Rajon lies in the west of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and is bordered to the north by the dammed reservoir to Dniprodserschynsker Dnepr, in the northwest of the Kirovohrad Oblast ( Rajon Onufrijiwka ) in the west to the Rajon Pjatychatky and to the south and east by the Rajon Krynytschky. Other rivers in Rajon are, besides the Dnepr, the Saksahan, the springs near the village Maloolexandriwka in Rajon. Tributaries of the Dnieper are 42 km long Samotkan and Omelnyk ( Омельник ).
