Vermentino

Vermentino is a white grape variety which probably has its origins in Spain or Madeira. It is spread to Corsica and Sardinia, in Liguria and increasingly grown in Languedoc. To the east of Provence it is grown under the name role. In Corsica, it is called Vermentinu and occasionally Malvasia de Corse, which points to the suspected origin of the Malvasia family.

Vermentino is a late ripening variety. The wines are golden yellow with greenish glints in the rule. Your bouquet is intense, fruity and fragrant. They are usually dry and aromatic and have a slightly bitter undertone.

The total area is approximately 3,850 ha in Italy (1999). You will find there way into the DOC wines Alghero, Bolgheri, Candia dei Colli Apuani, Colli del Trasimeno, Colline di Levanto, Colline Lucchesi, Golfo del Tigullio, Maremma Toscana, Montecucco, Monte di Massa Marittima, Riviera di Ponente, Val di Cornia, Vermentino di Sardegna. The only DOCG wine is the Vermentino di Gallura.
