Vermillion County, Indiana

The Vermillion County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. In 2010, the County had 16,212 inhabitants and a population density of 24.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Newport.

Geography

The County is located in western Indiana on the left bank of the Wabash River and on the west by Illinois. It has an area of 673 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. At the Vermillion County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Vermillion County was formed on January 2, 1824 from parts of Parke County. It was named after the Vermillion River.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Vermillion County 16,212 people in 6639 households. The population density was 24.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 6639 households lived statistically 2.39 per person.
