Vermont Progressive Party

The Vermont Progressive Party ( German: Vermont Progressive Party ) is a political party in the United States, which operates exclusively in the U.S. state of Vermont. It was founded in 1999 and can be considered as social- democratic. She is represented by five deputies in the House of Representatives and two seats in the Senate from Vermont. This makes it the only " third party" of the United States in a parliament of a federal state.

History

The Progressive Party emerged from the supporters of the independent politician and former mayor of Burlington, Bernie Sanders, out. Sanders was from 1991 to 2007 Member of the House of Representatives of the United States and is a member of the U.S. Senate since 2007. However, Sanders, who describes himself as a socialist, is not a member of the Progressive Party and sits in the fraction of Democrats.

In the presidential elections of 2000, the Progressive Party nominated the candidate of the Green Party, Ralph Nader. 2004 could reach three more seats in the House of Representatives from Vermont, the party, as of October 2012, it has five seats in the house. Programmatic

The Progressive Party represents a social democratic and populist politics. The party advocates, among others, for a citizens' insurance in health insurance. Furthermore, the party is committed to the promotion of renewable energy and a nuclear phase-out. The party is set pacifist and refuses first strikes by the U.S. military. It supports the rights of homosexuals and was instrumental in the introduction of same-sex marriage in Vermont. The party is committed to a minimum wage, and for the decentralization of the economy.
