Vern Buchanan

Vernon G. " Vern " Buchanan ( born May 8, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American politician. Since 2007 he represents the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

After completed in 1969 High School was Vern Buchanan for six years a member of the Air Corps of the National Guard of Michigan. He then studied at the Cleary University in Ann Arbor, and later to 1986 at the University of Detroit. In the following years, Buchanan worked as a businessman in various industries. He was engaged inter alia in the printing trade and from 1992 in Ocala (Florida ) in the car trade. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 2006 he was in the 13th electoral district of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Katherine Harris on January 3, 2007. After the previous two elections, he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In the congressional elections of 2010, he was recently confirmed with 69 % of the vote, so he can spend until January 3, 2013 more term in the U.S. House of Representatives now.

Buchanan is a member of the Committee on Small Business, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and Veterans Committee and six subcommittees. In the years 2008 and 2009 he was designated by the Ethics Association Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington because of the controversial campaign finance as the most corrupt congressman. His first election in 2006 was very close and was only confirmed by a re- tallying. An election challenge was dismissed. In the years 2008 and 2010, his victories were much clearer. Buchanan supported several youth organizations with monetary donations. He has received awards from several chambers of commerce and veterans organizations and was chairman of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. Today, he is next to his deputies activity chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Florida and board member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Vern Buchanan is married. With his wife Sandra, he has two adult sons.
