Vern-d'Anjou

Vern- d'Anjou is a commune with 2267 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire.

Location

Vern- d'Anjou is located about 30 km ( driving distance ) north-west of Angers in an average height of about 50 meters above sea level. inst. , the cantonal capital Le Lion - d'Angers is only about ten kilometers to the east.

Demographics

The significant population growth in recent decades is quite essential due to the proximity to the city Angers and the comparatively low rents and land prices in Vern- d'Anjou.

Economy

The economy of the town for centuries has been focused on the self-sufficiency of the population. With the growth of the population of Angers was also produced for local markets, but this was not easily accomplished because of the distance. In 1866 there were ten windmills and four water-powered mills in the place; the population reached almost 2,300 inhabitants.

History

On the history of the place, little is known. A parish is in any case already mentioned in the 12th century. In the late 18th and early 19th century Vern suffered from the riots of the royalist peasants ( chouans ).
