Vernasca

Vernasca is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2,200 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Piacenza in Emilia -Romagna. The municipality is situated approximately 33 km south-southeast of Piacenza in the Val d' Arda, bordering the province of Parma. Vernasca belongs to the Comunità Montana Valli del Nure e dell'Arda. The municipality is part of the Lago di Mignano, which is drained by the Arda.

History

The municipal area was settled very early by Ligurians. The Abbey of the Tollatal possessed in the Middle Ages this area as Lavernasco. In the 10th century, then the Castello di Vigoleno was built.
