Vernate, Ticino

Vernate is a municipality in the district of Agno, district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is located on a terrace of the hill of Santa Maria in the lower Malcantone and has about 550 inhabitants.

In Vernate were two graves which contained a pot and scissors as adjuncts, discovered from the Roman period.

History

The Bishop of Como in the village possessed fiefs, which were partly acquired from the pin section Agno 1192. The village was also under Milanese and federal rule to Pieve Agno and was subject to 1788 the parish Iseo, whose parish church of Santa Maria Giovena ( JUVENIA ) is located in the municipality. In 1335, the first time the municipality 's name was mentioned.

The villagers lived from agriculture or migrated as a builder of. It was not until the second half of the 20th century Vernate developed for residential community, and as of 2000, almost four-fifths of the labor force commuters.
