Vernazza

Vernazza is a municipality with 899 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012), which is located in northwest Italy in the Liguria region in the province of La Spezia. It is the second most northern of the five villages of the Cinque Terre. The further south Corniglia, also one of the Cinque Terre political forms, a fraction of Vernazza.

Vernazza is one of the preserved fishing villages on the Italian Riviera. The town was founded around the year 1000, the castle Doria at the edge of the cliff from the 11th century. In the first half of the 13th century, the church of Santa Margherita d' Antiochia was built opposite.

Traffic

Vernazza has a railway station that connects the village to the neighboring villages and La Spezia, Sestri Levante.
