Description

In the field speedwell is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of growth 10 to 25 cm in the rule. The non rooting stems grow prostrate or ascending, is strong and usually branched way branching at the base.

The slightly glossy leaves are ovate - elliptic, obtuse to notched cut, the upper and thickness taper shaped and colored light green. They are short -stalked and a little plump.

The 5-8 mm long flowers are whitish and veined blue. Occasionally, a tip is colored light blue or reddish. They grow in clusters. The sepals are lanceolate, rounded at the front and sometimes glandular hairy. Do not overlap.

The fruit capsule is compressed kidney-shaped, something that clearly keeled and deeply emarginate. It has a very sharp bay. On its surface are exclusively glandular hairs, shorter, glandular loose hair missing. The stylus has a maximum length of 1.2 mm and usually does not extend beyond the bay capsule

The field speedwell blooms mainly in the months of March to June and often again from August to October.

Occurrence

Veronica agrestis comes from southern Scandinavia prior to western and southern Europe. East of it penetrates to Russia. He is also found in North Africa. Introduced deposits are found in North America. It comes in Central Europe usually widespread.

In Germany, this species is widely distributed, only in Bavaria it is rather absent-minded.

In Austria you can find the field speedwell in hill and montane levels scattered to rare.

In Switzerland, Veronica agrestis is locate scattered.

The field speedwell grows in root crop - weed societies and gardens. He prefers more or less fresh, nutrient-rich and often sandy loam soils.
