Verst
A verst (Russian Верста, Wersta, stress on the last syllable ) was a measure of length in Tsarist Russia.
In determining one also referred to the latitude of the earth at the equator, so it is called in old publications: " 104 1/6 versts go to a degree of the Equator ." In the same source, there is a conversion to a German mile or a mile Geographic, which are then " against seven versts ."
A verst corresponded 1066.78 meters = 500 Saschen ( Сажень, dt thread ).
1 Saschen = 3 Arshin ( Аршин ) = 2.1337 m.
1 arshin = 28 inches = 71.12 cm.
A Russian mile ( Миля, Milja ) has seven versts, corresponds 7.4676 km.
