Vertical Interval TimeCode

The Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC, pronounced " vit -si " ) is a time coding with time stamp (time code ) in the magnetic tape recording. Thus, for example, each image may be addressed to a video recording to be retrieved later, for example, by a cutting device. The time code is recorded in the vertical blanking interval ( engl. vertical interval) of a video image. This is the timecode not an afterthought editable and can only be recorded simultaneously with the video. The advantage of VITC is that it can also be read at slow tape speeds and tape at a standstill. For higher belt speeds the LTC can be used.
