Vertical mobility

Vertical permeability (also vertical mobility) is a term used in sociology. It means the possibility of moving up or down relative to an imaginary order of social class or social stratification.

An example of lack of vertical permeability is the caste system in India.

The term " glass ceiling " refers to a rise barrier for members of less privileged sections of society.
