VES-M Halle

The testing and development office machinery industry in Halle ( VES -M Halle) was a major administrative machinery business of Deutsche Reichsbahn imputed test department.

She worked closely with the then " Institute of Railway Engineering " together later with the Central Research Institute of transport ( ZfIV ). In the VES -M Halle were from 1 January 1960 to transfer by Erwin Kramer, founded in 1952 Vehicle Research Institute in Halle ( FMP ), which was founded in 1956 Laboratory of electric traction ( Vaëz ) with the electrical test facility in Dessau and the research institute, founded in 1956 for motor vehicles ( VAEMF ) summarized in Dessau.

Among other things, here the entire rolling stock used on tracks the DR on its own and from foreign production has been thoroughly tested. Exercise testing with measurement trains on tracks, impact tests on the Berlin outer ring and other tasks resulted from this particular department of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.

Some outstanding locomotives were converted to carry out the test and test drives at the VES -M.

  • In 1960 the reconstruction of the Baden Schnellzuglokomotive IV was completed for Express locomotive with a top speed of 150 km / h h 18 314.
  • The fastest operable steam locomotive 18 201, which from 1970 on the designation 02 0201-0 contributed to the DR, was up to the association of DR and DB in the disposal of the VES- M; it was designed specifically for testing at high speed. It was rebuilt in 1961 from the 61 002 and has a driving wheel diameter of 2,300 mm, which allowed a top speed of 182.5 km / h.
  • In the years 1964 and 1965, the four -coupled express engines, 19 015 and 19 022 converted for use as a brake locomotives.

For high speed rides an electric locomotive type E was 18, and from 1992 an electric locomotive of the DR- 212 series used since the performance of the E 18 were no longer sufficient. Also the "Germanization " of diesel locomotives from the Soviet and Romanian least production prepared here. This diesel locomotives of the DR series 130 were used instead of steam locomotives for trial operation.

The first director of the VES -M was from 1960, the locomotive construction company Max Baumberg, previously head of the FVA Hall. After his retirement, Dipl.- Ing Horst Stöß took over the management.

On 1 January 1994 they delivered the experimental farm of the Central Office Machine Technology (formerly VES -M ) to other attempt offices. After that, only basic services were conducted in Halle.

1996 Halle was finally abandoned. The test site in Dessau with the electric test field, most recently as Research and Technology Centre ( FTZ ), was dissolved on 31 December 2003.

DB Museum in Halle ( Saale) in 2008 a permanent exhibition on the VES -M Halle was opened.
