History

The first years

The first Feldkirch Hockey Association, the Vorarlberg Feldkirch Hockey Union was founded in 1927 as EHC Feldkirch. In the thirties, games were played against Swiss clubs lack of local competition mainly, but this came to an abrupt end by the Second World War. During the war years the game operation almost came to a complete standstill. 1945, the club was reorganized, and it soon found games again, again against Swiss opponent instead, though hardly got money to spend and the players had to cobble together their equipment even in part. For the 1948/49 season, the EHC Feldkirch Vorarlberg organized a championship and this could also confidently decide for themselves. In 1951, the club finally the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation joined. At this time was still played on Leonhard outdoor venue, which was also the home of the club in the first Bundesliga season in 1954/55.

Initial success in the Bundesliga

In the following years, the EHC Feldkirch always alternating between the different power levels, and also the lack of a skating rink made itself felt. Corresponding plans had been rejected in 1957 as a utopia, but on December 6, 1964, the project was ultimately still a reality. Then finally in 1967 was the promotion to the Bundesliga: with eight wins from ten matches the team had to win the National League A sovereign. At the same time, the club was renamed after the main sponsor in EHC Feldkirch Hilti. At the premiere of 1967/68 season the team was still last, but won the Cup Hilti International with a 8-3 against HC Dukla Jihlava. In the following years continuous development work has been done and rewarded in the season 1969/70 with the runner-up title behind the EC KAC.

In 1971 it was renamed the VEU Feldkirch, and a year later a new main sponsor was the Creditanstalt Bank Corporation brought on board. The club established itself in the middle of the Austrian League and did so with the roof of the rink in 1977, the next important step in the future. However, it was followed by a difficult period when the Treaty on European Union in 1978 just under vorbeischlitterte on bankruptcy, which also attracted changes in the club's management by themselves. Positive, however, proved to be some players obligations as those of Kelvin Green Bank, which was to remain faithful to the club for a long time.

The first league title

In 1981, the core of a team formed with Brian Hill, Jeff Geiger, Günther Stockhammer, Karl Heinzle and some other new players who should determine what happens in the league in the following years. Coach Miroslav Berek was indeed dismissed following a disagreement with the players, with Rudi Zanona as a coach and Greenbank as player-coach, the team placed but in the Champions round of the 1981/82 season in the decisive match in Klagenfurt with 6:4 and so won their first league title the club history. The title defense managed it twice in a row, and in parallel also showed the champion title of the youth teams of the club that has worked successfully in Feldkirch now. In 1986 there were again financial problems that also resulted that the compensation was filed. However, the club remained and continued the good work in the years to continue.

Peak and end

After a few average seasons, the meteoric rise of the Treaty on European Union began in 1991. November 13, 1991 by Ralph Krueger of those coaches committed the TEU should result from a sporting success to the next in the following years. Krueger undertook in 1992 the two Swedes Bengt -Åke Gustafsson and Thomas Rundqvist and rallied with Tom Searle to Simon Wheeldon and some other more established names players they. From 1994 to 1998, the Treaty on European Union dominated the hockey events in Austria and won unrivaled five league titles in a row. At the same time were booked on an international ice several high-profile successes. One of the highlights was winning the European Hockey League in the 1998 discharge, followed by also winning the IIHF Super Cup.

However, Ralph Krueger precipitated in the same year the decision not to stand as a trainer is available, since he had taken over as coach at the Swiss national ice hockey team. They were joined by financial problems that arose from the large expenditure on the squad in recent years and from the lack of marketing. After a short time it became apparent that the VEU their run of success would not be able to continue. Even some of the arrivierten player had to be dismissed, and the club dragged on for two more years through the game operation in the highest class, before in 2000, followed by the corner.
